David Roberts Obituary

COLONIAL BEACH, Va. - David Alan Roberts, 75, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 18, 2026.
Born Dec. 26, 1950, in Washington, D.C., David grew up in Baltimore. He graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, where he was a proud member of the crew team. After high school, David continued his education at Northern Virginia Community College and later attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.
David devoted his career to public service and safety. He worked as a deputy with the Virginia Fire Marshal's Office, later as a loss control engineer with Schirmer Engineering, and most recently as a safety consultant with Arlington County Public Schools. In each role, he was known for his steady presence, strong work ethic and commitment to protecting others. He also served as an adult leader in Boy Scouts of America.
On May 29, 1982, David married the love of his life, Karen, in Fairfax. Together, they raised their family and built a life rooted in love, dedication and shared purpose. After retirement, David and Karen settled in Colonial Beach - a place David truly cherished. He loved being on the water, spending time fishing and crabbing, and enjoying the peaceful rhythm of coastal life. They were both actively involved in the Placid Bay Civic Association, where David valued community and friendship.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel W. Roberts Sr. and Doris K. Roberts.
He is survived by his brother, Daniel (Cindy) W. Roberts; and his beloved nephew and niece, Christopher Brice Roberts and Kristin Keely Roberts; as well as a host of extended family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 28, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Main Street, Smethport.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Autism Speaks at 1060 State Road, Second Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540.
