Frances Herndon Fitzpatrick of Chesapeake, VA passed away on January 26, 2026, after a long illness with family by her side. Fran was born in Danville, VA on December 1, 1947. She was a graduate of Tunstall High School and attended Northern Virginia Community College Majoring in Criminal Justice. Fran was an 11-year Veteran of the U.S. Air Force followed by a career in retail and security with the Army/Air Force Exchange Service and the Virginia Department of Corrections. Fran was the daughter of the late John H. and L.Z. Herndon and is survived by her husband of 52 years, James V. Fitzpatrick, daughter Kimberly C. Fitzpatrick, and grandson, Hunter J. Fitzpatrick. She is also survived by two brothers; Harold D. Herndon of Danville, VA and Douglas W. Herndon of Dry Fork, VA, two sisters; June Tate of Danville, VA and Judy Snead of Cascade, VA. Fran was a member of St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Chesapeake, VA. She was an avid Washington Commanders Football fan and enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, working crossword puzzles, and solving TV murder mysteries. The family would like to thank Fran's doctor, Ashly Welty and nurses, Lynn and Tambra Lee for the exceptional home care they provided during her illness. A visitation will be held at the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D Oliver Funeral Apts., 1416 Cedar Road on Wednesday February 4, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow. A graveside service will be conducted the same day at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk, VA at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.
