James Howard West Jr.

James Howard West, Jr., 68, of Norfolk, Virginia passed away on January 31, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the only son of the late James H. West, Sr. and Cora Evelyn West. He graduated from Norview High School with the class of 1975. His love of animals brought him to work at Pets N Things from 1981-1996. He retired from Atlantic Dominion in 2023 after more than twenty-five years of service.

Jim loved the simple pleasures in life, including fishing, watching NASCAR, and hunting for deals at flea markets and yard sales. He collected sports cards and memorabilia and was a devoted fan of country music, especially Shania Twain. Animals held a special place in his heart, particularly tigers. In his retirement, he enjoyed revisiting his favorite classic television shows, including The Andy Griffith Show.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Frances Wolcott (and brother-in-law George), and his sister Judith Hilty (and brother-in-law Richard). He is survived by his niece, Amy Hilty, his nephews Allen and Jerry Wolcott, and good friend Kathy Starr.
