Dr. Edward Ross Obituary

Dr. Edward Richard Ross Jr, of Big Shanty Road in Lewis Run, passed away Saturday (July 30, 2016) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y., after a 15 month hard fought battle with cancer.
Born May 17, 1941, in Bradford, he was the son of Edward and Antoinette Nuzzo Ross Sr.
Ed graduated from Bradford Area High School in 1960 and continued on to Mansfield State University, where he received a degree in elementary education in 1965. In 1968, he received a master's degree in elementary education from St. Bonaventure University and a master's degree in guidance in 1972 from Edinboro University. He went on to receive his doctorate in counseling and educational psychology from Penn State in 1981 and became a Pennsylvania licensed psychologist in 1983.
Upon graduation from Mansfield, he worked for the Bradford Area School District for 15 years, first as an elementary teacher, then an elementary principal, and finally a junior high guidance counselor. After completing his doctoral program he worked in various clinical settings, including Dickinson Mental Health Center in Ridgway, The Guidance Center in Bradford, and as the psychologist for the Psychiatric Unit at the Ridgway Hospital.
Prior to his retirement in 2007, he worked for the State of Pennsylvania Mental Health System, the last two years as the psychologist for the forensic unit at Warren State Hospital.
In 1971-1972, he owned the Fly Fisherman's Vest, a hunting and fishing store on West Washington Street in Bradford. He sold the shop when it interfered with his ability to hunt and fish, his lifelong passion. In later years, he would add trapping and biking to his list of things he loved to do outdoors.
Dr. Ross was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and a past member of the American Psychological Association, the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, American Counseling Association, National Certified Counselors, National Certified Geriatric Counselors.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean (Walmer) Ross, who he married on Nov. 10, 1978; their son, Dr. Aaron Edward Ross; their daughter-in-law, Angie (Mitchell) Ross; one aunt, Irene Onuffer; and several cousins. He also leaves behind his "grand puppy Aoki."
Dr. Ross will be entombed in the St. Bernard Mausoleum in a private ceremony with the Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor of St. Bernard Church, officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
Those who wish to honor his memory may want to send donations to Hope Lodge of Buffalo, 197 Summer St., Buffalo, N.Y. 14222; or St. Bernard Catholic Church, 95 East Corydon St., Bradford, PA 16701; or a charity of your choice.

Dr. Ross was one of my favorite people at School Street! He was always kind and understanding. I remember asking him to come to our Home Ec lunch when we invited teachers. I doubt he wanted to come but he was gracious about it. The food was inedible, but he handled it well and thanked me for inviting him. Heaven gained an angel.

I have been a teacher for 31 years as well as a high school football coach. Dr. Ross had a positive impact in my life. He was one of my favorite teachers as my 4th grade teacher in elementary school. Later he became my guidance counselor and junior high football coach at School St. Jr. High School. He made learning/school fun as well as football. God bless him. - Mark Everett
