Gary R. Martin, 77, of Bradford, formerly of Warren, passed away Saturday (Oct. 7, 2023) at St. Vincent Hospital, Erie.
He was born April 13, 1946, in the former village of Kinzua, a son of the late Troy and Vera Eschenbach Martin.
He was a 1964 graduate of Warren Area High School and he earned his bachelor's degree in secondary education from Edinboro University in 1969.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War; serving from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1972. While serving his country Gary earned a Bronze Star Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars as well as several other commendations and medals.
On Aug. 27, 1988, in United Methodist Church, Sheffield, Gary married Linda Wilson, who survives.
He is a member of PARSE and a former member of PSSU, First Presbyterian Church in Warren and the former Kinzua baseball team. Gary's hobbies included carpentry, woodworking, making wooden furniture, gardening and geocaching. He also enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan.
He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare as a caseworker in Warren and Bradford for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor in 2004.
In addition to his wife of 35 years, Linda Martin of Bradford, he is also survived by two brothers, Troy (Andrea) Martin of Canonsburg and Timothy (Mary) Martin of Chester; three sisters, Rebecca (Michael) Volow of Durham, N.C., Nancy (Manny) Rydholm of Newburg, Ind., and Judy (Richard) Lipsey of Kersey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Martin.
Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 12, 2023) at Mascho Funeral Home Inc. with funeral services immediately following with Pastor Andrew Christiansen of Seventh Day Adventist Church, Derrick City, officiating.
Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
