Gary Roberts Obituary
He was the son of the late R. John and Ruth Anna (Barrett) Roberts.
Gary was born Nov. 28, 1943, in Bradford. He graduated from Bradford Area High School and then attended Lock Haven University, where he earned a bachelor's in mathematics. After college he then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as a navigator bombardier in the Vietnam War. In 1976 Gary enrolled at Chapman University and earned his master's in criminal justice. Gary became a police officer and served with the Pacifica and San Diego police departments. Gary decided to move back East in 1981 to serve as Stroudsburg chief of police. In 1987 Gary and Michelle realized their dream of opening their own business and formed Gateway Abstract Inc.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Michelle L. (Padgett) Roberts, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage Aug. 1; daughter, Cherise Ann (Roberts) Decker and her husband, Scott, of Stroudsburg; and a grandson, Logan James Decker, also of Stroudsburg.
Gary is also survived by his sister, Bonnie F. (Roberts) Gordon of Altoona.
Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy John Roberts.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 18, 2024) at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Fifth St., where a service with military honors will immediately follow, led by Pastor Brenda Hobson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Zion Church of Christ in Stroudsburg or a veterans charity of your choice.

Gary, you have made your final flight into the wild blue yonder´s. You are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow Vietnam Veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Have a smooth flight.
