Herbert Skuba Sr. Obituary

Herbert S. Skuba Sr. 79, of Bradford, Past President/CEO of Ellwood City Hospital, passed away Sunday (May 27, 2018) at the Bradford Manor.
Born Dec. 7, 1938, in Hazleton, he was the son of the William C. and Carolyn Natafalusy Skuba.
On June 17, 1973, he married the former Sharon McCord, Skuba who survives.
Mr. Skuba was a 1956 graduate of Hazleton High School. He graduated from Martland Medical Center School of Nursing in Newark, N.J., in 1959 and in 1961 from the Easton Hospital School of Anesthesia as a certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
On Jan. 5, 1962, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He achieved the ranking of second Lieutenant and was honorably discharged. After the service he came to Bradford and took the position of chief of anesthesia at the Bradford Hospital, and also became assistant administrator. In 1974 he became President/CEO of Ellwood City Hospital, and the Mary Evan's extended Care Nursing Home. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, and received a Distinguished Service Award from Geneva College in 1978. In 1982, he earned his MBA from Robert Morris College.
He was elected chairman of the Pennsylvania Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators and served on the board from 1980 to 1990. He was on the board of the ESB Bank, known now as Wes Banco, and served as vice chairman. He retired in 2008 after 34 years as President and CEO of Ellwood City Hospital. Mr. Skuba was one of the longest serving hospital presidents in Pennsylvania.
He loved hunting and golfing, was a member of the Connoquenessing Country Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge #252 F&AM.
In addition to his loving wife of 44 years, he is survived by three sons, Herbert S. (Isa) Skuba Jr. in Florida, Matthew (Nicole) Skubain Washington and Gary (Millini) Skuba in Pennsylvania; two daughters, Carole (Orbin) Lesly and Janet McCarty, both in Texas; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Gloria) Skuba in Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law, Nancy Skuba in Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William W. Skuba.
At the family's request there will be no public visitation. Private services will be held for the family in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes with the Rev. Seth McClymonds, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. After the funeral members of the American Legion Post #108 will accord Military Honors at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any Alzheimer's Association or Humane Society.
