John McElwee Obituary
PORT ALLEGANY - John R. McElwee, 51, of Button Road, passed away Friday (May 27, 2022) in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born Nov. 12, 1970, in Coudersport, he was a son of Paul F. and Mary Lou VanZile McElwee. On Apr. 30, 2005, he married Phyllis A. Grossman, who survives.
He was employed with the former Pittsburgh Corning Co., Port Allegany, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and most recently Bradford Pipe & Supply Co., before having to retire.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1988, received an associate degree in electrical engineering from Penn Technical College, Williamsport, and attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
He was a member of the Sons of VFW, Post 6391, Port Allegany.
John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also loved his dogs and cats.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Phyllis, are four stepdaughters: Paula Larson, Page (Andrew) Moore, and Lt. Pamela (Dan) Dixon, all of Reading, Patricia Larson of Port Allegany; two sisters, Sara L. Wilson of Emporium, Beth Ann McElwee of Port Allegany; three brothers, Thom (Tammy) Bates in North Carolina, Patrick (Brenda) McElwee and Edward (Grace) McElwee, both of Port Allegany; 14 step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Wednesday (June 1, 2022) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Moose Lodge 460, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the Veteran's Memorial Home, Port Allegany.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
