Leonard Anderson Obituary

SMETHPORT - Leonard C. Anderson, 74, beloved husband, Dad and "Grampy," of Smethport, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (Nov. 2, 2023) at his home.
He was born May 28, 1949, in Kane, a son of Carl L. Anderson and Catherine (Rounsville) Anderson. On June 19, 1982, in Smethport, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sharon "Sherry" Marsh, who survives. They were married for 41 years and were always seen out and about together.
Lenny was a 1967 graduate of Smethport High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1969 to 1971. He served one year in Vietnam as a combat medic from July 1969 to July 1970. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with a "V" Device for Heroism, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He worked several jobs over the years in McKean, Clearfield and Jefferson counties, but found a "home" at Zippo Manufacturing in Bradford, from where he retired in 2011.
Lenny was a lifetime member and Past Commander of the VFW Post 2497 of Smethport and was also a member of the American Legion John Berg Post 976 of Crosby.
He was best known for his quick wit, his infectious dance moves and his undying love for God, family and country. His grandchildren were his pride and joy!
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Leonard C. Anderson Jr. of DuBois; one daughter, Crystal (Steve) Woodard of Smethport; grandchildren, Tyler, Kaitlin and Abbey; one sister, Charlotte Clutter of Smethport; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Anderson, and an infant son.
At Lenny's request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 18, 2023, at VFW Post 2497 of Smethport. Military honors will be accorded at 1 p.m. with the celebration immediately following.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to VFW Post 2497 of Smethport.
Arrangements are under direction of Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc. Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.

Lenny was a true friend and confidant of mine during our high school junior and senior years, especially when we were playing basketball together for SAHS. He was always there at my back, and made me smile even whenever we were together.

Lenny "Doc" Anderson and I served together in Vietnam during most of 1969. Sherry just reached me today in Texas. Lenny served as a Medic with our Recon Platoon out walking the jungle. Have so much more to add in a longer remembrance message soon. And will be spreading this sad news with his fellow Infantry Brothers and families. Rest in Peace, Doc, my Military Friend and Brother.
