Maxine Parko Obituary

PHILIPSBURG - Maxine M. Parko, 95, a guest at Heritage Ridge Senior Living and formerly of Philipsburg, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born on Nov. 24, 1929 in Clearfield, she was a daughter of Elmer and Luella (Lucas) Duck. Maxine was a 1947 graduate of Clearfield Area High School and owned and operated the Fabric & Alteration Shop in Philipsburg for several years.

Maxine was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Philipsburg, where she was a member of the Circle of Faith. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a charter member of the NCT Campers Association. Maxine was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed party planning and was an excellent cook.

On Nov. 23, 1952 at the Woodland Methodist Church, she married Roy V. Parko. He preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 2010. Maxine is survived by three children, Catherine Hayes and her husband Joseph of Chester Hill, Jeffery Parko and his wife Robin of Lafayette, Colo. and Robin Parko and her husband Ray Beam of Pleasant Gap; two grandsons, Thomas Hayes and his wife Stephanie, and Scott Hayes and his companion, Patience Parnich; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Fonda Duck Walls and her husband Fred of Lafayette, Colo.; and a brother Jerome "Butch" Duck and his wife Gretchen of Boalsburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by a sister, Nira Williams; a brother, Eugene "Sonny" Duck, and her special friend, (since age 2) Virginia "Ninny" Cederberg.

Honoring Maxine's wishes, there will be no viewing, no service and no dinner.

In lieu of flowers, Maxine requested memorial contributions to be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 465, Philipsburg, PA 16866.

Rest in peace Aunt Maxine. You will be greatly missed. I still remember growing up with all the get togethers you hosted and the delicious food you would make. Robin and I also had our secret hideaway in your basement that we spent countless hours playing in. You played a role in so many great memories of my childhood.
