Patricia Shinaberger Obituary

Patricia Ann Shinaberger, 78, of Bradford passed away Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2025) at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
She was born March 10, 1947, in Bradford, a daughter of the late Homer and Evelyn Tobin Bundy.
She was a 1965 graduate of Bradford Area High School and she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in administrative science from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
On May 25, 1979, in Bradford, she married John Shinaberger, who survives.
Immediately after high school Patricia began work in the inspection department of KOA Speer Electronics. After attending DuBois Business School, she did clerical work. In 1971 Patricia began at Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a clerk-typist. While there she soon began studies at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. At PennDOT she rose to manager of highway maintenance for McKean and Elk counties, and retired in 2007 after 36 years of service.
Patricia frequently engaged in outdoor life. She participated in hiking, bicycling, canoeing and cross-country skiing. She also enjoyed travel, both in the U.S. and overseas. She had held positions in local chapters of the Association of University Women and in Zonta. She was also a past president of the Allegheny Outdoor Club. Literature was a big part of her life, participating in book clubs, founding No Rules Book Club and leading the One Book Bradford project for years. She contributed to Bailey's Beads, a University of Pittsburgh at Bradford periodical. When at home, reading and gardening were her favorite activities.
In addition to her husband, John Shinaberger of Bradford, she is survived by one stepson, Lee (Jennifer) Shinaberger of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and four younger sisters, Lois Allen of West Branch, Mich., Barbara (Dale) Songer of Bradford, Margaret Hoak of Bradford and Mescuel (Dave) Monroe of Winchester, Va.; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Rita Rattan; and her stepfather, John "Moose" Lafferty.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 4, 2025) at Mascho Funeral Home Inc., where a memorial service will immediately follow with Dave Monroe, lay minister, officiating.
Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to the Bradford Area Public Library, 67 W. Washington St., Bradford, PA 16701.

Pat was a best friend. Loyal, strong, brave. So many memories starting with tea around the Bundy table with all the girls.
My prayers are with John and her family.
