Preston Weinberg Obituary

LOS ANGELES - Preston Joseph Weinberg, 25, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, at his home in Los Angeles from acute asthma exacerbation.
He was born Dec. 30, 1999, in Warren, Pa., to loving parents Rick and Kimberly Marcott Weinberg of Bradford, Pa. They survive.
Preston grew up in Bradford surrounded by a loving community. He was a member of Temple Beth El and attended Bradford schools, including The Learning Center. He was a 2018 graduate of Bradford Area High School, where he and friends started the esports club.
Preston grew up playing youth sports, including Bradford Little League, Bradford Wrestling, Midget League Football and the Bradford Youth Basketball League. He played football and basketball at Fretz Middle School and basketball for the Bradford Owls during his freshman and sophomore years. He was a member of the Bradford Area High School Ski Club.
He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in the fall of 2018, then achieved his dream of living the city life when he transferred to the university's Pittsburgh campus in January 2019. He graduated from Pitt in December 2022 with a degree in digital narrative and interactive design that perfectly fit his interests in media, technology and storytelling.
After graduating, Preston went to work with Insight Global as part of a team creating the Metaverse at Meta, the parent company of Facebook. His work took him to Palo Alto and Los Angeles, where he enjoyed exploring the state's beauty and culture with new friends.
Preston taught himself guitar and studied with Alan Hancock. He had recently become part of the band Boy Cry in Los Angeles and was enjoying performing in small venues around the LA area.
Preston's true gift was making friends, whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents and many, many friends, he is survived by his sister, Madeline Weinberg of Bradford; grandparents, Richard J. and Carol Marcott of Bradford and Paul and Susan Weinberg of Hillsborough, N.C.; and aunts, uncles and cousins, Pamela Weinberg and Steven, Elias and Miles Nevid of Springfield, Va.; and Mark, Jennifer, Emma and David Weinberg of Hillsborough.
A memorial service for Preston will be held at noon Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Harriett B. Wick Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Friends may call beginning at 11 a.m. to express their condolences.
Online condolences may be left at Malinow and Silverman Mortuary, malinowandsilverman.com.
The family requests that donations in memory of Preston be made to a charity of the donor's choice, particularly those supporting youth music programs, a Bradford-area nonprofit or Never Use Alone, a nationwide overdose prevention lifeline at neverusealone.com.

Preston taught me how to play checkers when I babysat him and Maddie one night, he was like five at the time. SO smart! I moved away and never got to know him as an adult, but man, what a special kid!

I am so sorry to hear of Preston´s passing. I still remember the piano leaving our house so that he could learn to play.

Preston was one of the smartest and nicest kids in school. He´s the reason I know anything about Hanukkah. Never was a dull moment with him, he knew how to make you laugh. May he rest in peace
