Richard Carlson Obituary
Born on Oct. 20, 1923, he was a son of Herman and Ester Hanson Carlson. On March 15, 1943, he eloped and married the love of his life, Isabelle Bloomquist, who passed away on April 23 of this year.
Richard was a beloved husband for 71 years and, as much as his family tried to ease his pain, they feel he died from a broken heart. He will be sadly missed by all.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Artillery in Europe, and at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked for Dresser, Laffenbergers, and retired from National Fuel Gas. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and St. John's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeannine (Lyle) Leaman; two sons, David R. (Anne Lindquist) Carlson and Daniel (Connie) Carlson; three grandsons, Ira, Abram and Joshua Carlson; a granddaughter, Danielle Kelly; and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Donald Carlson of Ypsilanti City, Mich.; a sister, Pauline Kapper of Massillon, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Vivian Kramer of Bradford; and brother, LaVerne Carlson of Emporium.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church with a luncheon following at the Fellowship Hall.
Memorials can be made to The Kane Lutheran Home; St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Mount Jewett; or a donor's choice.
The Cummings Funeral Home Inc. in Mount Jewett is in charge of arrangements.
