Robert Wilday Obituary

ELDRED - Robert A. Wilday, lovingly known as Bob, passed away peacefully Monday (July 21, 2025) at the age of 83.
A longtime resident of Eldred, Bob was born in Olean, N.Y., on Sept. 20, 1941. He was raised in Hinsdale, N.Y., and was the eldest of five children.
Bob married the love of his life, Sylvia Bailey, on Sept. 14, 1963, in Eldred. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family and love, raising their three children - Brian, Jennifer and Robin - "up the Brook" in Eldred. Their home was filled with warmth, creativity and the steady presence of a devoted husband and father.
Bob dedicated his life to hard work and service. Over the years, he was employed by the Olean Times Herald, JB Hunt and ATA, earning the respect of coworkers and friends for his reliability, strong work ethic and kind spirit.
A proud and active member of Boy Scouts of America, Bob served as both a leader and a mentor, earning the honor of membership in the Order of the Arrow. His dedication to guiding young people reflected his commitment to character, faith and service.
Bob had a special love for the outdoors, often expressed through his artwork. He found joy and peace in painting landscapes using oils, watercolors and acrylics, capturing the beauty of the world through his eyes. His creative spirit and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Above all, Bob was a man of unwavering faith. He was a member of Eldred First Church of God, where he found not only spiritual grounding but also a true church family. His love for Jesus and desire to be a man of faith inspired those around him.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia, of nearly 62 years; their children, Brian, Jennifer and Robin; his sister, Corinne Moore; two brothers, Jeff and Marty; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy; and several nieces and nephews, who dearly loved their "Uncle Bob." He is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and lifelong friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Sr. and Harriet; and his brother Gary.
Bob's legacy is one of love, service, creativity and faith. His gentle spirit, wise guidance and great kindness will be deeply missed - and always remembered.
Family will receive friends 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday (July 26, 2025) at Eldred First Church of God, 142 S. Main St., where a funeral service will follow. A time of fellowship will follow the service at the church. Private interment will take place at Lamphier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the glory of God, to Eldred First Church of God.
Arrangements are under direction of Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville, N.Y.

From the very first meeting Bob and Sylvia welcomed me with open arms. When John and I decided to marry they were one of the first to know. Bob did sound on my CD and Sylvia was fantastic prayer support. Sweet memories! Sylvia my sweet friend, I treasure you! My heart mourns your loss but also rejoices in heaven's gain. Prayers for strength and comfort for you and your dear family. I love you! Pastor Deb Mallery
