Sheila Ann Goodman, 79, formerly of 695 W. Washington St., Bradford, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 6, 2021) at the Windsor House at Snyder Memorial Health Center, in Marienville.
Born Dec. 1, 1941, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late James V. and Rita Conley Harris.
She was a 1959 graduate of St. Bernard's High School.
On March 31, 1961, she married Max J. Goodman, who survives.
Sheila was the matriarch of her household and enjoyed spending time with her family. She played a huge role in raising her younger siblings, children, and grandchildren. She was the ultimate caregiver who always put her family ahead of herself. Sheila is one of the 300,000+ Americans to succumb to COVID-19, a battle in which she should have never had to fight.
She was a former Brownie Troop Leader and Cub Scout Leader and had volunteered at the American Red Cross. She was a bowler and member of the Koffee Kup League where she won several awards. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several area bridge clubs. She also played multiple different card games including freecell, solitaire, and variations of rummy. Sheila could beat anyone in a game of Scrabble. She could solve the cryptoquip when no one else could. Sheila loved to read and solve crossword puzzles and had completed thousands upon thousands of both in her lifetime. She was an amazing cook and baker who could entertain effortlessly for a few or for many, including large family dinners or cookouts at the camp.
Throughout her life, she unknowingly passed down her talents and her likeness. Her son Scott is an amazing baker and cook, her daughter Marie has her entertaining and infectious sense of humor, and her daughter Lisa inherited her avid love for reading, cards, and puzzles.
Sheila was very candid and did not sugar coat. She told you what she thought, what was going to happen, and exactly how she wanted it to happen, there were no other options other than Sheila's way. Sheila was an animal lover that had a few cherished pets including a Doberman named Greta and an Irish setter named Abercrombie. Sheila had a big heart and wouldn't stand for some of this world's cruelty toward one another and those less fortunate than her. Sheila beat lymphoma in 2010 when her odds were slim. She was tough, she was fierce, she was tenacious, and she was loving. Lastly, she enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, betting on sports, and drinking the occasional beer.
Surviving are her husband, Max of nearly 60 years; two daughters, Lisa E. Goodman of Bradford, and Elizabeth M. (Bill) Martin of Bradford; one son, Scott A. (Amy) Goodman of Dillsburg; six grandchildren, Matthew Harten, Ashlee (Jeff) Puglio, Jessica Martin, Sean McLaughlin, Meghan Goodman, and Rachel Martin; three great-grandchildren, Aayden Harten, Max and Lucy Puglio; two sisters, Rosemary (John) Osborne, Kathleen Roberts of Bradford; one brother, Edward (Cheryll) Harris of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews.
