Christopher Liddle Obituary

The Liddle family shares the news of the passing of Christopher Cain Liddle on January 26, 2021 in Cudjoe Key, Florida, following a short period of declining health.

Chris was born in 1956 in Albany, NY and graduated from the Albany Academy. He attended Outward Bound School and developed a passionate interest in the wilderness, undertaking a 1000-mile solo hike on the Pacific Crest Trail while in his teens. Chris graduated from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where he studied outdoor education, and solar design. He became a wilderness guide, produced his own mountaineering gear and used it on expeditions to Mount Foraker in Alaska, Pico de Orizaba in Mexico and Mount Huasqueron in Peru. After receiving a master's degree in architecture from the University of Colorado Denver, he moved to Vermont and established an architecture practice, specializing in resorts and vacation homes.

Chris was an activist and organizer for causes he believed in, including nuclear disarmament, environmental justice, the rights of the homeless, and world peace. After vacationing there for many years, he moved to the Florida Keys where he enjoyed the great outdoors and making new friends. Along with his architecture practice, he worked as a kayak guide and led tours of the pirate history of Key West. In addition to the Keys, his family home on Friends Lake in the Adirondacks of NY was always a special place for him to relax and spend time.

Chris was a lively storyteller, always quick to make a friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his father Charles M. Liddle of Albany, NY; brother Matt Liddle (Nancy) of Sylva, NC and sister Sara Holloway (TJ) of Underhill, VT as well as niece Hannah Kreider (Mason) of Charleston, SC and nephews Jack Liddle of Sylva, NC and Carson Holloway of Underhill, VT.

In lieu of flowers contributions could be made to The Adirondack Land Trust. https://adirondacklandtrust.org/

I don't know what made me look up Chris just now. I hadn't seen him in decades - probably not since the 90s when he lived in VT.

I'm saddened to hear of his passing. I knew as soon as I saw his photo that it was him. That sweet smile captures his personality so well!

I lived at Chris's, briefly, one summer in the 80s. He was always welcoming, generous and friendly. He had many friends here back then!

Chris had such a great sense of humor and a well-rounded intelligence (social, emotional and intellectual).

In this photo you can see he only got better with age.

My condolences to his family.
He was one of the good ones!

Chris, I'm sure you and Bill (Powers, a late mutual friend) are having some laughs over a brew in heaven! Rest in peace, my friend. Thinking of your laugh just now, your surprising humor and your good heart.

I am very saddened to hear of Chris' passing. Chris was an incredibly energetic, passionate, creative, and generous man. He was a big art of our lives for a time. He attended our wedding; he gifted us framed prints of his brothers art that still hang in our home. He was even at my daughters birth 21 years ago. We were the recipients of several hand-made gifts from Chris -- a folding chess set with beautiful buttons as chessman individually and meticulously sewn onto velcro squares. This chess set was meant for traveling and for being on water. And I still wear and love the thick, satiny, double-layer, deep purple scarf he made me for Christmas one year. His memory lives on. I have made a donation to the Adirondack Land Trust in his memory. With heavy heart, Pam.
