Clayton Griswold

1932-2013 BELLOWS FALLS, VT Clayton "Gris" Griswold, age 80, of Steuben Street died Aug. 4, 2013 at the Vernon Green Nursing Home.

Mr. Griswold was born October 25, 1932 in Springfield, VT., the son of Emerson and Josephine (Fontaine) Griswold. Mr. Griswold was a graduate of Bellows Falls High School and Rutland Business College. He served in the US Naval Air Force from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean Conflict.

Upon being discharged from the Navy, Mr. Griswold began his career in the trucking industry, retiring from St. Johnsbury Trucking in 1994. He was a licensed Real Estate Broker in Vermont and New Hampshire for many years. He was a member of St. Charles Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Parish Council, and Chairman of the annual Bishop Fund Campaign. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and a former member of Hooper Country Club. He served as an auditor and a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the village of Bellows Falls.

On April 16, 1955 he was married to Mary Barry, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Karen Brown and her husband, Charles of Burlington; a daughter, Mary-Jo Mumford and her husband, Walter, of New Haven, VT; five grandchildren; Amy Veilleux and husband, Matthew of Essex, Christopher Brown of Burlington; Anna and Kaylee Mumford of New Haven, VT and Andrew Mumford and his wife, Alison of Springfield, NH. - also two great grandchildren, Liam Veilleux and Geoffrey Mumford. He was predeceased by his parents, and a daughter, Noreen Ann who died August 31, 1959.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be calling hours 6:00 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7th at Fenton & Hennessey funeral Home in Bellows Falls, VT. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 8th at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls with burial to follow in the St. Charles Cemetery in Westminster, VT.

If friends wish to do so, donations may be made in his memory to Kurn Hattin Homes, P.O. Box 127, Westminster, VT 05158 or to the St. Charles Renovation Fund, 31 Cherry Hill, Bellows Falls, VT 05101.

I was sad to hear the news from my sister Gris had passed. To the entire Griswold family our thoughts and prayers go out to you. Gris was a wonderful man. Great sense of humor and a infectious smile. He will be mised.
