1942 - 2016 Edward M Goutas, 73, passed away on Sunday June 19, 2016, following a brief illness. Edward was born on September 12, 1942 in Bellows Falls, VT, son of Nicholas & Ida (Stankiewicz) Goutas. Edward graduated from Bellows Falls (VT) High School class of 1960, St. Michael's College, Colchester, VT class of 1964 and St John's University School of Law New York , NY class of 1968. After Law School Edward was a New York State Parole Officer before coming home to Vermont to practice law. First in Brattleboro with Cersosimo and then with Luke Crisp and Tim O'Connor. In 1973 he opened his own law practice on The Square in Bellows Falls and shortly later was appointed and then elected to the position of Probate Judge, a position he held until the Westminster District Probate Court was closed. Edward was a four letter athlete at BFHS-football, basketball, track & baseball. He set many records diving and swimming for the newly formed swim team. Edward was a fabulous duplicate bridge player and achieved the rank of Life Master. He retired with the love of his life Nancy Holton Divoll and moved to Florida to play golf every day. He achieved the great goal of a golfer with his first Hole-In-One on May 27, 2016. Edward is survived by his wife, Nancy, Beverly Hills, FL, sisters Cathy Bergmann of Bellows Falls, VT and Dorothy Chapman of Louden, NH and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother John Goutas. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral to be held at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls, VT at a date to be determined with burial at St Charles Cemetery.
