Joel Tidd Obituary

Joel Tidd, 80, of Hancock, VT died Friday, November 22, 2024 at Menig Nursing Home in Randolph Center, VT.

He was born April 12, 1944, the youngest of nine, to Marguerite (Parker) and James Tidd, Sr. He attended St. Charles Catholic school through 7th grade, in Bellows Falls and then graduated from Bellows Falls High School. After his service in the Navy, he attended and graduated from Radiology School in Keene, NH. He worked at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, leaving to attend St. Joseph's College In Windham, Maine, where he received a degree in Radiology. He worked much of his life at Brattleboro Hospital and finished his career at Grace Cottage Hospital. He met his wife of 44 years, Gail (Bannister)Tidd, at college after a soul-searching look into Monastic life.

Joel passionately loved his Catholic faith, his children Caitlin and Jesse and his four grandchildren and all of his many nieces and nephews. He found much peace and beauty, working in his many flower gardens.

He is predeceased by his brothers and sisters Jim (Marge), Eddy (Barb), Harold (Ann), sister-in-laws Priscilla and Bonnie, sisters Bea (Barty) Bartlett, Rosemary (Eddie) Deluco. He is survived by his wife and children; brothers are Robert and Micheal, and Joel dearly loved his sister-in-law, Therese Tidd.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be scheduled for a future time. In lieu of flowers, donations to Gifford Medical Center's Last Mile Ride, 44 South Main Street, Randolph, VT 05060. The Day Funeral Home in Randolph is assisting the family with arrangements.

I have many fond memories of working with Joel at Grace cottage Hospital. As a physician in a small hospital, working inpatient, outpatient and emergency room, we often had to take our own x-rays evenings and weekends so working with x-ray technician like Joel was a real collaborative experience. I remember his patience and kindness. He sometimes got into trouble talking too much with patients! He did love people. I remember little touches like how he decorated the bathroom/changing room to make it feel more home-like. I will always remember him as one of the old guard at Grace Cottage.

Joel was one of the most kind and honest and understanding and helpful people I ever met I became good friends with him over the years would walk up to his house a lot we would sit and talk about everything under the sun and he was always a good listener if I needed to talk about what was on my mind and he always saw the good in everyone which is a rare quality to find in people these days I'll miss you a lot Joel but God now has another angel to give wings too ill think of you when I'm out working in my flower gardens.
