Marguerite Evans Obituary
BRATTLEBORO -- Marguerite C. (Cutting) Evans, 90, formerly of Guilford, died peacefully Wednesday evening, Dec. 21, 2005, at the Thompson House Nursing Home.
She was born in Wilmington on March 15, 1915, the daughter of the late Harry and Bertha (Adams) Cutting.
Mrs. Evans graduated from Wilmington High School with the class of 1933.
On May 10, 1936, in Wilmington, she was married to Hugh Evans, who predeceased her on April 12, 1982.
She worked as a town clerk for the town of Guilford from 1958 through 1971. In addition to her work as a clerk she was also a full-time homemaker.
She was a member of the Wilmington Baptist Church, the Guilford Ladies Aid, the Guilford Fireman's Auxiliary, and the Homemaker -Extension Service.
Mrs. Evans liked to read, do jigsaw puzzles, knit and crochet, as well as work at many other crafts. She also made lap-robes for those in need.
Along with her research for others while being the town clerk, she had an avid interest in tracing genealogies for family and friends.
Mrs. Evans enjoyed many hobbies but her real love was spending time with her growing family.
She is survived by two sons, Harry Evans and his wife Nancy of Guilford and Winston Evans and his wife Sue of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Kathleen Snow of Brattleboro and Beverley Thurber and her husband Stuart of West Brattleboro; a sister, Eleanor Davis of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Marie and Eugene L. Thonton Jr., Denise and William J. McDonough III, Joyce and Don M. Astley Jr., Victoria Evans, Jennifer Perry, Sara and Edward Cobb, Hanna Thurber and Shabir Kamal, Ross Thurber and Amanda Ellis-Thurber, Jessica and Eli Gould, Ethan Ogden, Matthew and Jennifer Ogden, 21 great- grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband Hugh, she was predeceased by a son-in-law Donald Snow, and a great-grandchild James Cobb.
A memorial service will be held at the Christ Church of Guilford on Monday at 11 a.m. There are to be no calling hours at this time. Following the church service, there will be a time of fellowship and remembrance at the Guilford Grange Hall.
