Nicholas Beeber Rege-Colt

1962-2014 Nicholas Beeber Rege-Colt, born December 7, 1962 in Providence, R.I., died suddenly of cardiac arrest June 14, 2014 on board the yacht Moonshine while racing off Block Island. Nicholas grew up in St. Paul, Minn, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Providence and Little Compton, R.I. A 1981 School One graduate, he attended Bard College, and graduated in 1993 from the North Bennett Street School Cabinetmaking program. Nicholas lived in the Brattleboro area in the mid-1980s, and worked at the Common Ground Restaurant. Nicholas married his teenage sweetheart, Maya Rege in Providence in 1993 and they resided in the Amherst, Mass. area since. They have two children, Leland Kumar, 18, and Manali Joan, 15. Nicholas was employed by VCA Inc. in Northampton for 19 years as a cabinetmaker, draughtsman, project manager, and trusted advisor. He recently served on the Board of the Smith Vocational School. Nicholas was a gifted woodworker, an enthusiastic biker, an able seaman and musician, a lover of nature, and an avid supporter of his family's endeavors. In 2004, Nicholas and his family spent 10 months volunteering for the Latika Roy Foundation in Dehra-Dun, Uttarakhand, India. The family returned to India in 2011 to visit family and friends. Besides his wife and children, Nicholas leaves his mother, Rosemary M. Colt of Providence, a sister, Rosemary Paris Colt of Cranston, a brother, Ames Borden Colt of Providence, and nine beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Lalita Rege, and his brothers- and sisters-in-laws Dr. Sandy and Mary Rege, Sujata Rege Konowitz, and Chip Konowitz. Nicholas was a man of integrity, principle, and joy. He loved his family and friends dearly, and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 27, 2014 at 1 p.m. at The Wesley United Methodist Church, Hadley, Mass.
