Peter Tustin Obituary

Peter Burr Tustin, 77, of Bokeelia, Florida and Townshend, Vermont, went to his final resting place with his Savior on Friday, March 11, 2022. Peter was welcomed into this world on Sunday, September 24, 1944 by his parents, Mary Elizabeth Tustin (nee Logan) and Clifford Joseph Tustin, in Hartford, CT. He was predeceased by his mother and father and a brother, Mark L. Tustin.

Peter grew up in Windsor, CT. He attended Windsor schools and, in 1964, joined the U.S. Marine Corps. His basic training was at Camp Lejeune. He rose to the rank of Sgt. E5 and served honorably. He participated in Operation Steel Pike, the largest peacetime amphibious landing exercise in history, conducted by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps and taking place on the coast of Spain in October to November 1964. He then completed a tour of duty in Chu Lai, Qu?ng Nam Province, Vietnam. He became a welder in the USMC and upon discharge worked in that trade for several years.

On April 26, 1975, Peter married Eveline "Evie" Cummins in Wheeling, WV, and in 1977, together they built their home in Guilford, VT and started their family. In 1984, Peter became the owner and operator of Tri-State Asphalt Sealing and Saf-T-Lines Company in Guilford, which he continued to operate with his son, Christopher until its sale in 2018. In 1999, Peter even had the opportunity to be employed at the largest base and research station in Antarctica, McMurdo Station. Peter spent the last years of his life between sunny Southwest Florida and Townshend, VT doing what he enjoyed most--spending time with family, fishing, traveling and driving his restored 1955 Thunderbird convertible. He was a member of VFW, American Legion, and the Elks.

Peter is survived by the love of his life, Evie; three children, Stephanie Wilbur (Walter "Bud") of Sterling, MA, Christopher Tustin (Hannah) of Guilford, VT and Rebecca Lapointe (Kyle) of Townshend, VT. He is also survived by his brother Jonathan C. Tustin (Carolyn) of Louisa, VA and his favorite sister Deb Tustin of Bass River, MA. Grandchildren are Reece, Conner, Emily, Wyatt, Norah, Silas; Katie, and Christopher "CJ"; and Kayden; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, on Walnut Street in Brattleboro, on March 29 at 11am. Burial has been planned for Spring. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Pete. https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/PFFTribute/PeterTustin
