Thomas Clancy Obituary

Tom Clancy, 79, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, after a period of decline due to cerebral vascular disease.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kathy Covell and his four daughters, Kate Korbet, Tayler Clancy, Bea (Zack) Hamilton and Annie (Marcel) Arsenault, and granddaughters, Hayden Fletcher, Zaida Covell, Nahla Covell and Wyatte Arsenault. He is predeceased by his parents, Martin and Marian Clancy, his brother, Buddy Clancy and as well as many devoted dogs.

Tom spent 65 years on a mountain somewhere in some capacity. As a young boy, he learned to ski with his father and brother at Mohawk Mountain in CT. As a young man, Tom began commuting from his day job as a draftsman to a weekend ski share house at Mt. Snow in VT. When he was 25, Tom discarded his mechanical pencil and white collared shirt to pursue his passion for skiing as a full time Ski Patrolman at Mt. Snow where he eventually, simultaneously, managed five departments, most notedly Mountain Grooming Operations. In 1996, he finally made the move to Colorado's blue skies and perfect snow where he discovered a new passion, helping people learn how to ski with the Ski School at Breckenridge Ski Resort. He also started B & B Property Services, an extensive snow removal business which allowed him to pursue teaching while actually earning a living with his snowplows and related equipment.

Tom will be remembered most of all for being a Man's Man, and for his entertaining storytelling, consistent political views, flawless skiing ability, determined bike riding all over Summit and Eagle Counties, flirting, fascination with Western movies and lifestyle, reciting Rodney Dangerfield jokes and sometimes silly Dad jokes, ability to fix anything mechanical, his favorite beer, "1554", unwavering devotion to his daughters and for never taking Kathy down a ski trail she couldn't handle. He also loved road trips in his Dodge truck pulling a long camper trailer behind. Exploring National Parks as well as little known places in the Southwest dominated his summer thoughts.

A Celebration of Tom's Life will take place from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on January 7, 2025 at the Quandary in Breckenridge. Please wear RED and bring a story to share. Donations in his memory will be gratefully accepted at the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center at https://form-renderer-app.donorperfect.io/give/boec/thomas-m-clancy-memorial-fund , the Summit County Animal Shelter at [email protected] or the Prayer Garden at Father Dyer Church Breckenridge, CO.
