Thomas Payne Obituary

Thomas M. Payne 1936-2008 BRATTLEBORO Thomas M. Payne, 72, of Brattleboro, died peacefully on June 3, 2008 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Born March 11, 1936, in Eldred, Pa., son of Howard and Leah Grantier Payne. He was married to Patricia A. Johnson and they spent 26 happy years together. Tom worked primarily as a carpenter but worked at many other endeavors to fill his time including several years at the Outlet Stores in Brattleboro, and several years working for the Sherriff's Department under Sheriff Graham. He was a member of the Brattleboro Kiwanis club and a board member for the Winter Carnival. Tom loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was rightfully proud of t he comfortable home that he designed and built, as well as other projects in the area, including the Kiwanis facilities at Living Memorial Park. Mr. Payne leaves his wife, Pat; two sons, Jeffrey T. Payne and his friend, Kim, of Charlotte, Vt. and Jonathan H. Payne and his wife, Denise, of Calabasas, Calif.; a daughter, Julie E. Payne of Panama City, Panama; two stepdaughters, Susan Rice and Kellie Thompson; two brothers, Howard W. Payne of Arcade, N.Y. and Dorland Payne of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Rhea Suzanne Becker, of East Aurora, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Jesse Russell and Chris Russell, and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: A memorial service for Tom will be held at a later date. There are to be no calling hours at this time. For those who wish, memorial contributions in Tom's memory may be made to the Brattleboro Kiwanis Club and sent to 57 High St., Brattleboro, VT 05301. Pat,
We were so sorry to hear about Tom's passing. We all feel blessed to have had him travel through our lives. Isn't it a small world that through knowing Tom I would get to see you again. I wish you and all the family peace and the time to heal from your loss. We will keep in touch.
