William Cooper Obituary

William (Bill) Frederick Cooper (79) passed away at his home in Sebastian, Florida on August 7, 2024, after a courageous battle with COPD, with his wife and two daughters by his side.

Bill leaves daughters, Susan Cooper Daigneault and husband Charlie, of Newfane VT, Shelly Cooper Wenzel and husband Tom, of Raleigh NC and stepdaughter Laurie Drew of Essex Junction VT. Bill was blessed with grandchildren Ryan, Derek, Rachel, Evan, Adam and Emma, seven great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.

Bill proudly served his country as a Navy Seaman Gunner's Mate from 1962 to 1966, serving on the USS Mills, the USS Cascade and the USS Van Vorhis DE-1028. After his military service, he pursued higher education at Salve Regina College and later graduated from CBP Border Patrol Academy in Glynco, Georgia. Bill's professional life was diverse and impactful, spanning careers in general banking, as an EMT, and as a Border Patrol Federal Officer.

In April 1992, Bill married his wife and best friend, Darlene Gordon Cooper. Their 32-year marriage was a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other.

A man of many talents and interests, Bill enjoyed camping and hunting, and was a gifted musician who played the drums, banjo, and ukulele. He was an avid history buff and spent many hours researching family genealogy. Bill was known for his quick wit and humor, often regaling family and friends with stories and off-color jokes that left everyone laughing.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Mary Cooper, his beloved brother, David L. Cooper and step-grandson Bradley Drew. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Cooper Davey, sister-in-law Dana Cooper, Carol Parvo Woods, the mother of his daughters, a host of family and friends, as well as his fur babies Charlie, Chloe and Bob.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Frank, RN, Jamie, RN and Brian CNA of VNA Hospice for their loving care and support.

Memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, Vero Beach, Florida or the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) https://www.dav.org/

Sorry to hear about Bill, I worked for a short time at VNB with him and also knew him from the Brattleboro Savings and Loan family. I will always remember the infamous sense of humor.

I first me Bill at Vermont National Bank in Brattleboro , VT in 1979 . He
was the Manager of the Installment Loan Dept. and I was there as a
Sales person representing MIA = Mortgage Insurance Administrators .
My connection with Bill expanded my relationship with all the VNB
branches and paved the way for future Vermont banks to join my
agency . What started out as a business relationship became a strong
friendship that included golf outings , BBQ's , camping trips , plumbing
repairs , road trips . Bill was a strong man physically and loved to tell stories . He was as honest and trusted friend . Unfortunately , he and
Camel cigarettes became the best of buddies and this habit brought
on his COPD which ended his life . I'll always have good memories of
Bill and extend my sincere condolences to Darlene and Susan and Shelly . May peace be with you always . Love , Ken
