Earl "Wayne" Edwards

Earl "Wayne" Edwards, 75, of Breckenridge became another victim of Covid pneumonia and on January 11, 2021 went to join his Savior in heaven with his wife and loved ones by his side. Wayne was born to E. Andrew and Joyce Edwards on July 22, 1945 in Lubbock. He grew up as a farm boy in New Lynn, Texas where he first learned how to work hard. It's a quality he never forgot. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1963.

He bought his first rent house when he was 19 and an insurance agency at 24. He worked as an independent agent in Slaton, built a tax business, got his broker's license to sell real estate, and acquired numerous rent houses. After 20 years, he sold the agency and fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a ranch. He and Mary lived on the ranch south of Post for 20 years before selling it to 'retire' to the house they built 2 years earlier on Hubbard Lake. This also gave them the additional bonus of being closer to the children and grandchildren. It wasn't long before Wayne was searching the newspapers for land in the area and found a small ranch which he purchased for the sheer pleasure of having a place to take his grandsons.

Wayne married Mary Mosser Wimmer on January 14, 1988 and together they had a wonderful life full of love, fun, and travel. They took numerous cruises, the last one less than a year ago thru the Panama Canal. They also enjoyed camping and always had an RV of some sort. He loved to fish and hunt and worked hard to instill that love in his grandsons.

Wayne loved life and was fun to be around. Until his feet would no longer allow it, he loved to dance and was a longtime member of the Town and Country Dance Club in Slaton. He had a great sense of humor and was always a faithful friend to those he knew. He was generous, loving, and adventurous. He loved following the stock market and spent countless hours researching his investments. He spent many hours helping his sons-in-law in whatever they needed. He loved that they came to him for advice and he shared his knowledge freely. They all thought of him as a second father.

Wayne was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Billy Wayne, on June 13, 1964.

Those left to mourn his loss and miss him terribly include his wife, Mary, his children Tracy Wiggs (Damian) of Temple; Cheryl Thompson (Paul) of Colleyville; Tyler Wimmer of Wichita, KS and Kelsey Cornwall (Jacob) of Breckenridge. He is also survived by his grandsons who were the joy of his life: Luke and Zachary Thompson, Victor Wiggs, and Campbell Cornwall. He is also survived by two sisters, Linda McCain of Wolfforth and Sherry Vallejo (Benny) of College Station, his Mosser in-laws who gave him a hard time but loved him dearly, and his dog Gypsy.

Due to the Covid epidemic, Wayne was cremated under the direction of Morehart Mortuary and a celebration of life was postponed until everyone could be vaccinated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 17 at 11:00 at FUMC Breckenridge with Pastor David Fergeson officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to your favorite charity.
