Barbara August Obituary
ENFIELD
Barbara (Eckstrom ) August, 88, of Fernandina Beach Florida, formerly of Enfield, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025. Born in Bristol, CT on September 30, 1937, she was the wife of the late Richard Joe August.
Barbara married her beloved husband Joe in 1959, and together they moved to Enfield in 1960, where they raised their family until she moved to a managed care facility in 2023. Barbara is survived by her brother Bill Eckstrom, sons Douglas and Gary August and her 4 grandchildren: Dana, Claire, Barrett and Brent August. She was predeceased by her sister Sue Eckstrom of Bristol CT.
Barbara was a Registered Nurse who worked for Hartford Hospital in her early career. Raising two sons made it necessary to be closer to home so Barbara transitioned to Parkway Pavilion Nursing Home in Enfield, then moved to the Suffield House, retiring in the early 90's. She provided comfort, healing, and hope to countless individuals and their families. A quintessential care giver, she always had someone else's well being in mind. Whether it was bandaging a simple cut or providing long term care to her husband at home during the last years of his life. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 16th, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Barbara's name to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield MA 01104. The Gary and Doug and family i´m saddened to hear that your mom has passed on, but she´s made a good run 88 years old. I had the great fortune of running into your father and your mother early in my life I enjoying your father in many of his adventures, there isn´t a time that doesn´t go by that I don´t see an old snowmobile ((skidoo especially)) that I don´t think of your father. Didn´t know your mother that well,, but she seemed like a nice kind person and after reading the obituary, she was she was a nurse in her life helped many people once again. My condolences and my thoughts are with you at this time former neighbor of the old neighborhood, I lived on Longview Rd., Jeffrey Brown
