On August 21, 2025, New Britain lost a small part of its history. Damian Staron, 65, a son, brother, uncle and friend who spent his entire life living and working in the New Britain area, passed away after a short illness.

Come winter, Damian was that quiet, kind neighbor who simply showed up and cleared your sidewalk and driveway.

Come spring, he was the friendly go-to guy for advice on plants, fertilizers, crab grass, and dandelions.

Come summer, at backyard BBQs and parties, being an excellent angler, he could match the best with his slightly embellished stories of the one that got away'.

Come fall, his knowledge of birds and nature would turn a sighting of birds flying south into a deep dive into migratory patterns, nesting peculiarities and the wonder of waterfowl.

Damian's love of nature was widely known, as well as his hunting, fly fishing, canoeing, wood carving, gardening and other hobbies. It is no wonder we all brought him interesting rocks and other bits of nature.

Born at the now renamed New Britian General Hospital, educated in the New Britain Public School system, then spending his work career as a respected landscaper at Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Damian retired Spring of 2025.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen Staron, his sister Helen and brothers Mark and Michael, and is survived by sister Mary, brothers Philip and Richard. many nieces, cousins and nephews.
