Daniel Slevinsky Obituary

Daniel "Luke" Slevinsky, 89, a lifelong resident of Terryville, peacefully passed away on Nov. 12, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on Jul. 19, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Susidko) Slevinsky, Sr.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Rose (Schmidt); children Daniel and wife Marianne Slevinsky of Terryville, Linda and her husband David Zapatka of Florida; four loving grandchildren Jeremy and his wife Kinsey Slevinsky of Watertown, Adam Slevinsky of Harwinton, Ryan and his wife Andrea Zapatka of Florida and Shelly and her husband Daniel Marion of Florida; ten adoring great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his dear friend Ret. Hartford Deputy Fire Chief, Brendan "Bud" Ericson. Dan was predeceased by six siblings.
Dan was an extremely hard worker. His unwavering work ethic began at Rudy's (Burzler) Riding Stable. From there he worked at E.E. Freimuth's Dairy as a milkman. After that, he took a job at Mayfair Garage and later, operating a bulldozer for Pete and Steve. In 1955, he started as a volunteer fireman at the Terryville Fire Department. Five years later, he left as a lieutenant with the TFD. Dan was the 4th hired police officer with the Terryville Police Department and retired as lieutenant after thirty years in 1985. He also acted as Chief of Police for a short time. He also worked as Deputy Sheriff for the Litchfield Jail. In addition, Dan was a graduate of the CT State Police Academy.
He was very active in his community with membership in many clubs and associations including: The Terryville Sons of the American Legion, Bristol and Terryville Polish Clubs, The Bristol German-American Club, Bristol Police Retired Association, Northeast Haflinger Association, Litchfield Driving Club, New England Chief of Police Association, Terryville Lions Club, he was a 32 Degree Mason and was a member of the Shriners Club for 50 years. Daniel loved raising and training both oxen and horses on his farm, Lindan Farms, Terryville, CT. He enjoyed showing horses and pulling oxen at fairs throughout New England.
He took pride in his family and was proud to have hosted 25 years of family reunions holding picnics at Lindan Farms. He spent his final years going on "patrol" and caring for his devoted wife; cooking and going on short drives together. You could find them sitting in the front yard of the house that they built in the 1950s, a testament to their commitment and dedication. In addition to the love he had for his family, he loved his town of Terryville (and would sing the town song to prove it)! He loved the police department, his country and the American Flag.

Just learned of "Uncle Danny"s passing yesterday when I spoke with my brother. I haven't lived in Terryville for 52 years, but I still remember him as a kind and caring man. Please accept my prayers and best wishes to your Mom.
