George Callahan Obituary

BRISTOL

George D. Callahan Jr., 91, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Sandra (Corey) Callahan. He was born on November 14, 1932, in Bristol, and was the son of the late George and Mary (Schriener) Callahan.

George grew up in Thomaston, a graduate of Thomaston High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed by General Motors/New Departure Hyatt in Bristol for 30 years as a machinist and later a foreman until he retired in 1987. During his life, George was a member of the Elks Club and an honorary member of the Thomaston Fire Department, Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1. He also enjoyed his Monday

and Wednesday afternoon card games with the ladies (and Tim) at the Bristol Senior Community Center.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Tracey Hoffman and her husband Stacey of Chester, Christopher Callahan and his wife Darlene of Bristol, Timothy Callahan of Meriden and Amy Callahan and her partner Jodi Powers of Newington. George is also survived by four grandchildren who he adored, Kayla and Kelly Callahan and Matthew and Allison Hoffman, his sisters, Barbara Olivero of Thomaston, Gail Neri of Northford and Shirley Westover of Southington, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He is predeceased by his sisters Ruth Brague and Mary Ouellette. The Callahan family would like to thank Bristol Homecare and Hospice, especially Jenny, Jody, Kristen and Matt for the exceptional and caring homecare they provided to George in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to the Bristol Hospital Development Foundation, 32 Valley Street, Suite D., Bristol, CT 06010.

A private burial service with Military Honors will take place at Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol.

George Callahan is the best friend the Marinelli family ever had. He made every one of us (all generations) feel special, and we loved him as our own.
Mike and I have so many treasured memories of him and Sandy on Friday nights at the restaurant, and bus trips to UConn basketball games, adventures at the race track with Nick and Maxine, Christmas eve parties in his downstairs bar, family celebrations, George and Sandy pizza parties, and lots of laughter and tears and opinions and advise and all the wonderful stuff that made George the great guy that he was. We are so sad that he is gone, but we are thankful that he and Sandy shared themselves with us for so many years.
