Helen Labieniec Obituary

NEW BRITAIN

Helen "Penny" (Biel) Labieniec, 100, of New Britain, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley J. Labieniec. Born in New Britain, she was the only child of the late Stanley and Victoria (Czeban) Biel, and remained a lifelong New Britain resident.

She graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City with a degree in Fashion Design. Penny was a talented dressmaker, creating and sewing beautiful clothes throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church and its Ladies Guild. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the Holy Cross Church choir, and the St. Jerome Church choir, and was a soloist throughout the years. Penny was a member of the Polonaise Club and the New Britain Council of Catholic Women. She was a member and past president of the Holy Cross School Mother's Club. She loved watching sports daily, and was an avid fan of UConn Men's and Women's Basketball, the Celtics, the Red Sox and football.

We will miss her beautiful smile and her adoring ways.

A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves four children, Susan Labieniec and Sharon Labieniec, both of West Hartford, John Biel Labieniec and his wife Diana of East Longmeadow, MA, and Paul Labieniec of New Britain; two grandsons Nicholas Noel-Labieniec and his wife Kate of Glastonbury, and Christopher Noel-Labieniec of Holyoke, MA; and three great grandchildren Maxx, Braeden and Savannah. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. Penny was pre-deceased by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Stasia and Boleslaw Nadolny, Mary Labieniec, Lorraine Baclawski, Anne and Ted Rogala, Terry and Joseph Urbanek, Florence and Casimer Dygus, and Paul and Annie Labieniec.

Her funeral service will begin on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 9:00 am from Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Church, New Britain. She will be laid to rest beside Stan in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Burritt Hill. Memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics Connecticut, 2666 State St., Suite 1, Hamden, CT 06517 or to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

When Penny entered any room, it instantly lit up with her keen smile and laughter. Her beautiful voice was shared at my daughter's wedding when she sang with the choir that came from the Church the Kennedy's belong to in Washington, D.C.

I am so sorry I cannot be with you at this time as I am presently in a rehab facility. We were friends for many years, and I will miss her. My sincere sympathy to you all, Susan, Sharon, John and Paul.

Susan, Sharon, John & Paul,
We grew up backyard to backyard for 18 wonderful years. Penny & Stanley J. and your family were the greatest neighbors you could ever ask for. John and the circle of friends have stayed together for the whole ride, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love the whole Guzze Family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Penny in 1988 when I became her next door neighbor. She was a wonderful neighbor greeting you with a smile,a lengthly
conversation which included news,sports,physical welfare,sewing
projects , recipes, healthy eating suggestions and
wishes of blessings ( not necessarily in that order) ! Her door was always open for a visit except on hairdresser days or choir practice days.
I marveled at her energy level, agility, and friendly advice. She was not house bound and drove herself to all scheduled activities.
Her personality included strength, opinions, kindness along with what was on her mind. My mother passed away in 1989 and Penny became my "go to" for advice & just plain sharing! She loved life,Stan, her family and had the greatest of hearts and clearest of minds! I will miss you as well as Helen ,Cooper & Kady
