I have known Sonny (John) since the fall of 1971. We were in the same pledge class, along with 10 others, for our fraternity (Kappa Sigma). We were affectionately known as the dirty dozen. We were good friends and played softball together for the fraternity. I admired his ability to simultaneously play "goalie" and third base. After graduation, we kept in touch and over all those many years would often get together for reunions, dinner, drinks and many laughs. I will greatly miss our conversations and his friendship.

John was a dear friend, colleague and paesano for over 40 years. He was a favorite of my parents, especially when he brought blue corn sour dough Loafin Around bread to our New Year´s Eve celebrations. Characteristically, he made a special trip to visit my Father in Hamden, Connecticut, about 2 weeks before my Dad passed away.

We met at the Radian offices in Tysons Corner, VA where I worked for him. We discovered that when he was in Great Britain he had helped campaign for my Mother´s cousin George Avitabile, who was running for State office.

We always shared a love of sandlot baseball and the New York Yankees. Memorably, I treated, but John obtained legit tickets at the last minute for John, Anne LeHurray and I to take the train to NYC after work to watch the delayed World Series game between the NY Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks at the end of October due to 9-11. The game went 13 innings, with the Yankees winning that game which ended in the wee hours of the next day. We got back to the WDC area around 4:30 AM and went to work later that morning. What could be better than that?

I then hired him to work with me at the American Chemistry Council (ACC). My home was his home away from home when I was on travel after he left ACC and needed to be in the WDC area after he started his consulting business.

I recall fondly a very special Thanksgiving dinner that John and Cindy shared with my Mom at my house in Great Falls, VA.

My Mom and I always made a point of visiting with John and Cindy in Ruckersville whenever we were traveling south to visit my sister outside of Charlottesville.

John was a wonderful friend, scholar, tech wizard and gentleman, who loved to laugh and find humor wherever and whenever he could. I have been blessed by having him in my life for so very long.

I first met John in the second grade at Thomas Jefferson School. We were members of what I regarded as our school family up to the sixth grade. I last saw him at our 50th High School reunion.

John was not only a classmate of mine but we were together in home room for many years. Always such a pleasure to see and chat with when we had our high school reunions. I was happy that at our last one we spent time chatting after the reunion. All wonderful memories of a great guy. Rest in peace my friend.
