John Latvis Obituary

BRISTOL

It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Retired Colonel, Dr John C Latvis of Indian Harbour Florida, Bristol Connecticut, Ashland New Hampshire announce his passing Saturday October 21, 2023. John is survived by his wife of over 60 years Diane (Stone) Latvis, currently residing; Zon Beachside Memory Care Indian Harbour Florida. His children, Chuck (and Joy) Latvis of Rye New Hampshire, Chris (and Diane) Latvis of Myrtle Beach South Carolina and Miki Latvis of Bristol Connecticut. Six grandchildren; Emily, Erick, Nicholas, Jaclyn Marie, Cody and Abigail Palmieri, and Great granddaughter Reese Joy (Emily). John is also survived by his brother and sister Philip Latvis and Dotti Bradbury. John spent his life in service; to his country, his patients and his community. After graduating from Georgetown University Dental School in 1966, he was active in the US Army medical corps, rising to the rank of Colonel before retiring from the Army Reserve. In private practice, John cared for patients primarily in Bristol and Terryville Connecticut. His dental practice spanned 40 years. Both Diane and John were very active in the community in which they raised their family, Bristol Connecticut. John was very active in the Bristol Lions club participating in the many events that raised money to benefit the local community. After retiring, John enjoyed spending time outside in the sun; on his boat, walking with Diane and their dog, or playing a round of golf. John loved animals and had considered veterinary school at one time. He spent his time in the company of family, friends and some very special k-9 companions; Snoopy, Kringle, Summer, Rusty and Micco. In lieu of flowers please donate to your local animal shelter. He would love to know his love for dogs and ability to help them continued. A small family gathering will be held this week in Florida. Family and friends may leave messages of support or condolence at his book of remembrance through beach funeral home Indian Harbour Florida. www.beachfuneralhome.com

Diane, Chris and Family: My heart goes out to you about the loss of Dr. John! I was so sad to see this. As Doc's patient from 1970 to the day he retired, I have many fond memories- like the day he was filling my teeth in the middle of the Terryville tornado. Dr. John was always cool and collected. I used to joke with him about how my dental work was helping him pay for his Corvette. BTW, he picked my favorite color! He was a wonderful man and I miss your family so much. There will be no other like your family. Sending thoughts and prayers!

There are so many stories that will be told about John and this is one of the best ways to keep his memory alive. He smiled at everyone and shook their hands no matter who it was. You did a great job setting the example for all to follow my friend while we enjoyed your company down here.
Now you can catch Walter
Love you man, my condolences to the families he has started.

My big brother was a true hero in my mind. He was very brave too! When mom & dad had his party for him he was so proud to be called to serve for our country in Vietnam. And I remember when he got on the plane in Claremont, NH to start his journey. He just smiled; so proud!
He was the most loving, caring, selfless, down to earth man I´ve ever known. He was always giving & loving. And this planet will never be the same without him! Will truly miss you Big Brother!
