CROMWELL
Philip Gustave Lund of Cromwell Ct. passed peacefully in his sleep early on the morning of January 31, 2024 at the age of 89. He was born in Berlin, Connecticut where he spent the first forty-two years of his life. His experience growing up on a dairy farm was a great influence in his life, instilling in him a great appreciation of the outdoors, an interest in history and a sense of service to his community. He was active in the Board of Appeals, the Conservation Commission, Volunteer Fire Department, and Planning Commission. He also served as Connecticut State Fire Warden for the Berlin area, Justice of the Peace and as the leader of Boy Scout Troop 13 for many years. The second chapter of his life brought him to Orleans, Massachusetts on Cape Cod where he owned and operated two successful businesses, The Cheese Corner and Swedelunds, selling cheese and gourmet Swedish foods. Next he moved to Richmond, Massachusetts in the Berkshires where, in his retirement, he became very active at the Richmond Congregational Church, hosting fellowship dinners and holding tag sales. The final stop on his journey was Cromwell CT where he continued hosting tag sales and making new friends. He has always enjoyed farming and gardening, collecting antiques, fixing clocks, hunting, good food and good company! He is predeceased by his wife and partner in adventure, Margaret Lund. He is survived by his sister Louise Buschell, his brother Walter Lund, his four children: Carl, Elizabeth, Peter and David, his grandchildren: Katy Sakash, Philip Lund, Raurc Hoermann, Olivia Transue, Amanda Lund, Rachel Lund, Victoria Lund, Peter Lund, Edward Lund and Amy Lund, as well as 6 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family would like to thank Jodi Rich for her companionship and care which greatly enriched the final months of his life and to the hospice floor of Middlesex Hospital for their thoughtful care and support. A memorial service will be held on February 9 at 11:00 AM at Saint Gabriel's Epicopal Church, 68 Main Street, East Berlin, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
The BrightFocus Foundation, for research into the treatment of Macular Degeneration.
