Theresa Paluf Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Theresa Margaret Paluf passed at the age of 70 in her home in Burlington on Dec. 26, 2020. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Petit and her son-in-law William Petit Jr., Caroline Brayne and her spouse Ryan Brayne, three grandchildren Shaelyn and Keegan Brayne and William Petit III, siblings Eileen, Michael and Peter Nix, niece Dana Nix and niece Maggie Nix, nephew Andrew, nephew Ian Nix and great-nephew Enzo Giannone.
Theresa was born to parents Margaret Irwin Nix and William Nix on May 20, 1950, in Dover, N.J. She studied nursing at Villa Maria College and pursued a career as a psychiatric nurse, earning the designation as an RN and serving a distinctive 25-plus career at the State of Conn. Department of Corrections. After retirement, Grandma Terri relished her time with her family and her garden. When she wasn't spending time with her treasured grandchildren, she could be found out in her garden or inside tending her many plants, visiting with her beloved cat, Muffin. She loved Star Trek and was a proud "Trekkie."
Grandma Terri was the type of person who made everyone around her feel like they were special; she loved to cook and bake for others and her care packages were the stuff of legends. An avid genealogist, she shared her genealogical experience with others by working twice a month at the Bloomfield Family History Center. A proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she was a wealth of knowledge on all things pertaining to Nix and Irwin family history and has truly left us a rich legacy. We love you, Mom.
Services will be held this Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Canton, at 27 Lawton Road, Canton. There will be a viewing preceding the service from 10 to 11a.m. at the above-listed Mormon Church. The church service will begin at 11 am. and will be available starting at 10:45 a.m. via Zoom. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Lower Calvary Cemetery, 32 Collins Rd, Collinsville. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Michaela's Garden project of The Petit Family Foundation. Theresa and I worked together as Nurse Clinicians at Garner. Only the two of us with this title brought light, laughter, and rules to the people we served. At times it was challenging but we did the job to the best of our abilities and paved the way for correctional facilities in the state. I will miss my co-worker and friend.

I just heard about this and my heart is broken! We served at Garner together. I was a CTO and we used to do groups together. We were assistant fined to the most dangerous block in the jail. She never wavered, always did a great jib and after several months of working together I started calling her “Partner!” That means something to people like us. I have worked with hundreds of staff but not many partners. She was in if a kind and I lived her and I will miss her. I was lucky to have her in my life!
