Thomas Blejewski Obituary
Thomas C. Blejewski, 75, died on August 23, 2025, after a sudden illness. Born on August 17, 1950, to the late Charles and Ann Blejewski, Tom graduated from Farmington High School. After a cross-country hitchhiking trip, undergraduate studies in history at UConn, and graduate studies in labor relations at UMass Amherst, he made his home in the Farmington area for the rest of his life.
Tom was in his element outdoors, enjoying camping, foraging, boating, and fishing
(especially at Winding Trails). He was a lifelong seeker of knowledge with an open mind, sharp wit, and eclectic tastes, and in recent years devoted time to studying the history of the land and honoring the stewardship of its Indigenous peoples. He was guided by a strong belief in mutual aid, committed to helping others and appreciative of the support that he, too, received from his community.
He was predeceased by his beloved dog of 17 years, Suki, and several cats. He is survived by his wife, Marcy Bonola, and their daughter, Hallie Blejewski; his brother,
Gerald Blejewski; sisters Carole Julius, Barbara Blejewski, Anne Carlson and her husband Peter, and Mary Perron and her husband Thomas; cats Raven and Simon; grandkitties Gus and Millie; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, at South Church in New Britain, followed by a reception with light refreshments.
Tom was passionate about animal welfare and for many years cared for a feral cat colony in New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hermione's Home rescue (www.hermioneshome.com), or you may honor his memory by opening your home to a cat in need.
