Domingo Mondragon Obituary

Domingo was born in Michoacán, Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. in 1942. He came to work in the U.S. where man power was needed while soldiers were at war. He subsequently married Adela A. Duran and they lived the majority of their lives in Cheyenne WY. Domingo worked 30 years for the UPRR, retiring at the age of 65. The idea of retiring was not in his vocabulary and he began a new career with the "Cheyenne Country Club" and retired after 20 years. He was a man that thought outside the box and there was no task he would not undertake. In 1955, he along with two other RR workers rescued six children from a stranded school bus and sheltered them for 14 hours, while risking their own lives. This was during a blizzard that dropped 17 inches of snow within a couple of hours with winds reaching 60 mph. Eventually, he retired in Broomfield, Colorado with his wife Adela to be near their children and grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He will also be remembered for his resiliences, fortitude, his Kool-Aid smile, but most of all for his life's lessons he was willing to share with his family at his side.
