Charlotte Baker Obituary

CHARLOTTE DIANE BAKER
On March 9, 2008, our Lord Jesus Christ took Charlotte Diane Baker by the hand and together they walked to her new home in Heaven.
She was born on June 15, 1931, in Anderson, Ind. to Oren and Prudence G. Edrington. She and her family moved to Brownsville in 1943, where her father served as head of the Weather Bureau for Brownsville. In 1951, she became the wife of her high school sweetheart, Charles Richard Baker. Always a full time mother and wife she served the church as a secretary for 25 years.
More than her physical accomplishments, Charlotte Baker's life was defined by her inner strength. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. Having contracted polio at the age of 10, Charlotte never let her physical disabilities impair her in any way. "Disabled" and "fragile" were not a part of her vocabulary. Instead, Charlotte chose to embody the admonishment given to all Christians by St. Francis of Assisi to always preach the gospel and when necessary, speak.
She chose to live the life, not of one "handicapped" or "disabled," but the life of a child of God who displayed His mercy and love with every step she took and every person she loved and every person she helped.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles Richard Baker of Brownsville; a son, Richard Baker and wife, Lynda; her daughters, Karen McGowan and Lori Morgan and husband, Glenn of Pfluegerville. She was "Nana" to Ryan and Matt McGowan, Whitney and Shelby Morgan and Courteney and Harley Baker. She was "Great Nana" to Austin and Gavin McGowan of San Marcos. Charlotte is also survived by her sister, Cathy Spencer and husband Jeff, and two brothers, Jerry Edrington and wife Barbara and David Edrington and wife Carol, her in-laws, Ralph and Sylvia Baker, Eva Lee Baker, George and Sue Baker and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 208 at the Central Christian Church, 1100 E. Alton Gloor, Brownsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central Christian Church Building Fund, 1100 E. Alton Gloor, Brownsville, Texas 78526.
