Gary Wayne Wilson

1948 - 2022

Gary Wayne Wilson Port Aransas, Texas Gary, age 74 died at home surrounded by family on October 14, 2022. Born in Brownsville, Texas on May 9, 1948, he was the son of attorney E. Wayne Wilson and Lillie Helen Wilson. He graduated from Brownsville High School, received a BBA degree in finance and marketing from Texas State University and attended the Southwestern School of Banking at SMU. He began his banking career in Brownsville in 1974 serving as Vice-President of Pan American Bank, later known as Texas Commerce Bank and Executive VicePresident and Manager of Commercial Lending at Inter First Bank of Conroe and President and Director of First State Bank of Corpus Christi (NBC Bank South Texas). He left banking during the tumultuous late 80's, moved to San Antonio, and pursued successful careers in real estate and management. Gary joined the Kleberg Law Firm in 1996 as Managing Director where he met his wife of twenty-four years, Susan Castor Wilson. They became a blended family with five children who soon became very close friends even though they were scattered far and wide. This was one of Gary's proudest accomplishments. Gary left the Kleberg Law Firm to return to banking with Texas State Bank that later became BBVA. He left BBVA to assist in the establishment of Plains Capital Bank in Corpus Christi, Victoria and Alice, Texas in 2014. He remained there until his retirement in 2020. Gary is survived by his wife, Susan Castor Wilson and their children: John Kountz Wilson III (Hillary), Erin Lynn Wilson (Dieter), Charles Leo Castor III (Meredith), Laurel Elisabeth Castor (Martim), Cathryn Christina Castor Morrison (Raleigh); his sister Jerilyn Wilson Blanchard, his nephew Justin Wayne Blanchard (Erica) and neice Jaselyn Blanchard Pace (Mason); eight grandchildren, and close friend and colleague, Frank Hastings Jr. (Laura). Gary is preceded in death by his parents E. Wayne Wilson and Lillie Helen Wilson, his brotherin-law and best friend Jeffrey Paul Blanchard, and grandparents John Kountz Wilson Jr. and wife Sinnie Adabelle of Brownsville and Hugh Henry Wilson and wife Edna Marie of Enid, Oklahoma.
