Austin, Texas - Margaret Yunnie Riddell Valle 93, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Riddell Valle, a mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a beautiful soul and beloved member of the Brownsville, Texas community. Margaret, 93, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, in Austin, Texas.
Margaret was born in Calcutta, India on December 3, 1931, to Andrewetta Gray Russell Riddell and John Scott Riddell. She was of Scottish decent and was raised in Banchory, Kincardineshire, Scotland. During WWII she and her brother were sent to a boarding school for safety purposes. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Craigmyle Riddle and sister-in-law, Pat Riddle of Saskatchewan, Canada.
Margaret was a pillar of love in the lives of those who knew her and was a proud mother to Susan Valle Hanson (Karl), Scott Valle (Susan) and Dr. Eric Valle. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Evan Hanson, Savannah Hanson Fredde (Dane), Joshua Valle and Jason Valle and great grandchildren Sabrina Valle and Ryder Valle.
A legacy of kindness and grace, Margaret touched the lives of countless people through her compassion, warmth, and unwavering strength. She completed her degree as a registered nurse from St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London, England where she started her nursing career and then moved to the United States to work at Mount Sinai Health System in Cleveland, Ohio. Her nursing roles included emergency room supervisor, operating room supervisor, house supervisor and utilization review coordinator. Her favorite role was always the operating room. She spent many years as a nurse at Valley Baptist Medical Center formerly Brownsville Medical Center in Brownsville and retired in 2001 from Edinburg Regional Medical Center in Edinburg, Texas.
Margaret had a deep love for animals and a passion for nature, which she carried throughout her life. She was a Docent at Gladys Porter Zoo, Brownsville, a committed volunteer at Moody Clinic in Brownsville and was actively involved in the Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) for Incarnate Word School, St. Mary's School and St. Joseph Academy in Brownsville. Margaret played a key role in connecting individuals who helped develop a prosthetic flipper for Allison the sea turtle at Sea Turtle Inc. She also accompanied a chimpanzee from Glady's Porter Zoo to Edinburg, Texas, to ensure it received necessary medical care.
Margaret loved traveling with family and friends and was known for her sharp wit and love of a good card game- always accompanied by her signature scotch and soda. Her laughter and competitive spirit made every gathering brighter.
In her honor, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas or Sea Turtle Inc. on South Padre Island, Texas. A special thank you to Dr. Falen Miles and St. David's Hospital, Round Rock, Texas. The family is grateful to Ms. Juani Silva for always taking care of Margaret.
Margaret's legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit will forever live on.
A celebration of Margaret's life for family and friends will be announced and a private family service will take place in the coming weeks.
