PENELOPE BRIDGER Obituary
Penny, as she was affectionately known to all, was born in Alice, but had been a resident of Brownsville since 1967. She worked in the banking industry for a number of years and after retirement went to work at the Camille Lightner Playhouse as their office manager. Penny was a friend to all, from the very young to the young at heart. Penny's kindness, cheerfulness and vitality made an impact on the lives of many. Penny was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Martha Lynd.
Penny is survived by her daughters, Laura Wood-Smith and her husband Steve and Janna Arney and her husband Doug; the grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Jayson McGehee, Nicole Graham, Dylan Graham, Jakob Arney, Joey Arney and Ben Arney; a brother, Mark Lynd and his wife Emmagene; two nieces; Coco, her pet Bichon Frise; and other extended family members as well as many friends.
In accordance with Penny's wishes, she was cremated. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. today, Saturday, May 19, at the Church of the Advent Episcopal, 104 W. Elizabeth St. There will be a reception following the service in the Henri DeStefano Room at the Camille Lightner Playhouse, 1 Dean Porter Park. The family requests that people bring to the reception any pictures of special memories including Penny that they would like to share.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Penny's name may be made to either the Camille Lightner Playhouse, 1 Dean Porter Park, Brownsville, TX 78520, or Sunshine Haven Hospice, P.O. Box 4478, Brownsville, TX 78523.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I lived in the same condo area. She was such a nice lady. I would walk my dog Mischa(white shitzu) when she would walk her dog Coco. We would both stop and let dogs say hi to each other and have conversation at the same time. My condolences to the family and her beloved Coco.

Dear Laura and Janna, I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I so loved seeing & visiting with Penny. She was the essence of style and grace that you both inherited. Penny and I graduated from W.B.Ray High in Corpus Christi in 1960. We were in the same Y-Teen club - "Fidelis". and many of us have remained friends. In 2000 we had our 50th class reunion and am so glad Penny was there. We had a great time and last summer Janna hosted us at Lake Travis for another great time. Thanks again Janna for your hospitality. Several of us had or were fighting the same battle so we talked often, always positive and supportive with lots of prayers. Rest in peace, dear friend. What a loss for those of us who were blessed to know this beautiful lady. She was always so easy going, lively, had a warm heart and such a beautiful smile. She is someone who one just cannot forget. Prayers go out to her family and to all of those who loved her and will not be able to fill the empty place in their hearts that Penny's passing has brought about.
