Edward McDougall Obituary

Edward Franklyn McDougall, 88, of Shallotte, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, in Autumn Care.
Mr. McDougall was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Pittsfield, Mass., a son of the late Harold Duncan and Anne Higgins McDougall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Susanne McDougall, in 1976.
He was a retired sergeant major with 30 years of service in the U.S. Army Special Forces. His career involved more than 400 jumps and he served proudly in World War II, during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War.
Mr. McDougall's passions in life were Agape of NC, an organization where he assisted with the placement of abused and neglected children into Christian homes, his involvement with his church and his family.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Rogers McDougall; four sons, Frank McDougall (Mary), of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Edward K. McDougall (Brenda), of Hope Mills, S.C., Michael McDougall of Fayetteville and David McDougall of Fayetteville; and stepson, Greg Ivy (Dana), of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters, Donna Steburg (Russ) of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Marianne Spradlen (Joel) of Loris, S.C.; and stepdaughter, Melissa Cline of Middletown, Md.; sister, Dorothy Baker of Boynton Beach, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Shallotte Church of Christ, where he was a dedicated member, by the Rev. Bob Tipton.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086.
