Martha Jane "Mot" Noblitt, of Holden Beach died Thursday, March 23, 2017.
She was born Sept. 5, 1936, in Shelby to Perry and Annie Mae Noblitt. Her brother Milton died in 1977 and brother Bill died in 2016. Both parents are deceased: her father died in 1989, her mother died in 1990.
Mot attended Marion Elementary School, Shelby Junior High School and graduated from Shelby Senior High School in 1954. She received her undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University in 1958 and a master's degree in 1963.
She taught physical education and general science, and coached basketball and softball at Holbrook High School in Lowell prior to moving to Lancaster, S.C., where she was with the school system for 31 years. While in Lancaster, she taught physical education and biology, coached basketball and tennis, and served as assistant principal at Lancaster High School. She then became principal at McDonald Green Elementary School. During her tenure there, an addition containing 10 classrooms, a gym and a new cafeteria was built. Following her years at McDonald Green she became the director of elementary education for Lancaster County School District and during her final three years she was director of personnel. She retired June 30, 1994.
After moving to Holden Beach in 1998, Mot became a member of Sharon United Methodist Church where she has served on various committees and has taken part in church activities. She served as president of the Senior Lunch Bunch for eight years.
Surviving are her niece, Allison Rose Kessinger (Derrick) and children, Zachary, Anna Rose and Joshua, of Mount Gilead; four nephews, Billy, Bobby, David and John from Shelby; and Judy Hogsed, business partner and life companion.
Many thanks to Susan Gibble, Drs. Douglas Lee, Paul Payne, Robert Bennet and Ann Revels, and also to Kelly and Mildred from the Hospice Center.
