David Sanders Obituary

Richmond Hill
Dr. David Adam Sanders, retired chief master sergeant, 69, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at his residence with family.
Dr. Sanders lived in Savannah most of his life. He was a graduate of A.E. Beach High School, class of 1961, and did his undergraduate work at Savannah State College. He received his master's degree from Cambridge University, Boston, Mass., and his Ph.D. from Fielding Graduate University. He retired from the 165th Air National Guard as a chief master sergeant. He also retired after 30 years of service as a school teacher for the Chatham County Board of Education. He was a licensed electrician and worked at the Savannah Technical College as an air-conditioning and refrigeration instructor. He was the head deacon and member of the Overcoming By Faith Ministries, Savannah. Dr. Sanders was also known as a devoted family man and was married to his wife Gwendolyn for 37 years. He loved his two children, DaVena and David III, dearly. He was also a great teacher, mentor and friend to many others in the community. His kind and jovial spirit will be missed.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Senella Pettigrew.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Marie Carpenter Sanders of Richmond Hill; children, DaVena November Sanders Jordan (Tony Jordan) and David Adam Sanders III (Shawnna Anne Sanders); grandchildren, Tony Caleb McCall Jordan, Daniel Israel Jordan, Noah Christopher Sanders, Jayden Da'Shawn Sanders and Malenna Chanel Faith Sanders; brothers, Thurman Sanders (DeAnna) and James Earl Sanders; sisters, Lynette Sanders Robinson (Phillip), Barbara Sanders Frazier and Alvena Sanders Hopkins (Benjamin); numerous nephews, nieces and grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Overcoming By Faith Ministries, 9700 Middleground Road, Savannah. Burial will be in Beaufort VA National Cemetery in Beaufort, S.C.
Visitation is a hour prior to the service at Overcoming By Faith Ministries.
