Eric Cooper Obituary
Eric was born in Iuka, Miss. He has lived in Richmond Hill for the past 36 years and prior to this, he lived in Midway.
He had worked as maintenance supervisor for BASF and EMD.
Eric was a member of Waterfront Church and he was past president of the Bryan County Recreation Department for over 20 years.
Eric was a former volunteer fireman, ambulance driver and EMT in Garden City.
He loved his Super B Dodge Challenger car and he enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer Cooper, Amber Lemus (Andy) and Michael Cooper (Hannah); his sister, Evette Layne; his grandchildren, Keegan, Dylan, Kanyon, Logan, Briar, Bear and Buck; his nephew, Ryan Layne; and his dog, Dixie.
A memorial service was held at 5 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2024, at Richmond Hill Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eric's name to a charity of your choice.

Dear Michael, Amber, and Jennifer,
We are so deeply sorry about the tragedy of your father. Eric was a dear friend to us all. One who would always be there for you, regardless if he had something going on. We will miss him so much. He truly was considered family in our book. Anyone who knew Eric was well aware of his well earned nickname "The Opossum". It fit him perfectly because no matter what he went through, nothing would keep him down for very long. He always had a positive attitude and remained in good spirits! Eric was always willing and eager to lend a hand and help out best he could. We will never forget the great times we had together, whether we were going to the dirt track to watch the races, preparing for hunting season, riding the argo through the swamps, going on horse camping trips, fishing, or just cooking out and watching the game. We will forever cherish the moments we had and countless memories of all the laughter shared. We love you...you may be gone but we will always hold you close in our hearts. We miss and love ya buddy. May peace be with you.

Our hearts are so broken with hearing this sad news! He was such a nice and gentle person. One of my favorite memories of Eric, who is my second cousin, was the time he and his mother, cousin Barbara, met us and all the cousins in Nashville, at our Crown meeting. We had the best time talking, laughing and cutting up! Since that trip Eric and I have had some great conversations and laughs. I know how much he’ll be missed and our condolences go out to his children, grandchildren and sister Evette, and all the extended family who loved him!

We first met the Coopers when they moved in next door to us on Spruce Street and the very first time I saw Eric, he was running behind a laughing Michael who had decided he wasn't going to put up with the clothes he had on....he must've been about two or three at the time and Eric was a step behind picking up the clothes and trying to get Michael to " stop that or I'm gonna tell your mama!". Of course, from that day on, his family was also my family, there are so many good memories of them all. I have a hard time believing that he's gone, he always had a smile to share and was always trying to help people. He's a person who will ALWAYS be remembered by those of us who knew and loved him.
We will miss you Eric, but you will never be forgotten . Rest in peace for God has many new things to show you.

Eric and I were EMS partners years ago at Liberty County and he became a good friend over the years. He was probably the most down to earth friend I had and I cannot imagine his being gone. Family, he loved you dearly. God bless you all.
