Theron Darieng Obituary

Theron Darieng Sr., age 90, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Clyde, Ga., Bryan County. His parents were Thomas Benjamin Darieng and Nita Hinely Darieng of Bryan County.
He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduating in 1953 from Richmond Hill High School. In 1957, he was honorably discharged and became employed afterwards with Union Camp in Savannah, Ga.
In 1958, he married Janine Kirkland of Richmond Hill, Ga. They have three children, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Theron served on the Richmond Hill City Council from 1973-1990 and was instrumental in the incorporation of Richmond Hill as a city in 1962. He also served as a Public Works supervisor with the city for several years.
Theron served as a volunteer fireman for 40 years, retiring as captain of the Richmond Hill Fire Department.
Theron was a very dedicated, kind, caring, generous person who was always willing to go out of his way to help anyone anywhere for whatever reason.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Richmond Hill, where he served as a deacon for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Geneva Davis, Juanita Sanders and Estelle O'Connor; and his brother, Tommy Darieng.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, sons, Benjamin Darieng Jr. (Karen) and Robert Darieng (Jennifer); daughter, Pamela Yarley (Mike Sisco); grandson, Joseph Darieng (Joni); granddaughters, Carol Yarley and Catherine Ferrel (Chris); great-grandson, Seiler Ferrel; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Darieng; step-grandchildren, Zachary Wehrmann and Annaliese Cooper; a sister, Betty Darieng Trantham of Sumter, S.C; and nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Richmond Hill Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church Richmond Hill. Burial, with military honors, will follow the service at Bryan Neck Presbyterian Cemetery.
Many thanks to the Georgia Hospice Care Team for their loving care during his illness.
