Helen Taylor Obituary

Helen Freeh Schreiber Taylor, born March 19, 1931, died peacefully in Doyletown with her children near on Saturday, May 2, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and a short one with Coronavirus.

Helen was the wife of first husband, the late George R. "Bob" Schreiber Jr., and second husband, the late Joseph D. Taylor.

She is survived by her children, George R. Schreiber III (Chip), Susan Taylor, Jane Schreiber (Mike), Lee Prendergast (Jon) and Jeff Schreiber (Marilene), her grandson, Sam Pitkow, and sisters, Esther Shinn and Janet McCaffrey. Helen is also lovingly remembered by her step grandchildren, Fabio Lauriano, Jack Prendergast, Sarah Prendergast, Lauren Van Scoy (Mike), and Xaq Pitkow (Mary), as well as a large extended family and a multitude of friends.

Helen, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Freeh, was the youngest of 11 children. Despite growing up during the Depression and World War II, she had a wealth of stories recounting joyful idyllic days with her brothers and sisters on their farm in Bursonville, Bucks County.

Helen graduated from Sacred Heart Nursing School as an RN, and was fond of telling the romantic tale of meeting her first husband, Bob at the VA hospital in Philadelphia, where he was her patient. After raising her family, she became a psychiatric nurse at Philadelphia State Hospital at Byberry and then Eastern State in Bensalem.

Helen was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother whose positive attitude and zest for life will be missed. To her family's delight she maintained her sense of humor until the end; she was always quick with a laugh. She touched the lives of all she met with her kindheartedness, compassionate nature and endless curiosity.

She was a voracious reader, an avid bridge player and a very competitive Scrabble player.

Helen was happiest when spending time with her family and friends. For all of those happy times we are so grateful. Her wonderful spirit will live on through the many cherished memories she has given us. Helen will be intensely missed by many and never forgotten.

Services and interment will be held privately.

Your mom and family were a big part of my life growing up on "Elbow Ally". I have very fond memories of that time in our lives. Our moms were lifelong friends and both will be missed.

I was sad to read of Mrs. Taylor's passing. I remember her and my mom, Kitty, sitting at the Langhorne Swim Club chatting and laughing together. I wish peace to all of you. Take care of yourselves and one another. Karen Maitha-Maloch

Praying for you all & sharing in the loss of your mother & my dear friend. Friendship is such a vital & joyful gift. Helen brought many joyous memories & was a trusted & faithful friend, since we met at Byberry! I have missed being able to share our history on visits but her ever loving demeanor & humor was still present. Loved your Mom very much & share in your loss. Have watched that beautiful video repeatedly. Thank you for sharing family memories. You are all in my thoughts & prayers!❤

My condolences to the Schreiber and Taylor Families, Helen was a wonderful and humorous woman whom I first met way back when Jeff was in High school. Over the years I have had many great conversations with Helen where we shared satirical musings on the subject of talk radio. She was loved by many and and her presence will be missed. In Sympathy, Mark S. Fahr Jr.

Helen, or "Mrs. Schreiber" to me, was a a huge part of my life while growing up in Langhorne. She was patient, loving and kind - especially considering the mischief her son Jeff, and I got ourselves into on a consistent basis! She was, quite literally, like a second Mother to me, and I am truly honored and blessed to have had her be a part of my life. Love to the entire Schreiber clan.

Although I did not know Helen, I was a high school classmate of Lee's ... and remembering the kindness of her daughter tells me how special Helen must have been indeed.
