Abigail Johnson Obituary

Abigail B. Johnson

BUCYRUS: Abigail B. Johnson, age 100, of Bucyrus, Ohio passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 4:30am at the Carlisle Place in Bucyrus.

Abigail was born on June 19, 1915 in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Victor and Dessie (Jump) Bantzhaff. She was married to T. Lester Johnson on June 19, 1938, and he passed away on February 1, 1994.

She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn (Myers) Kieffer, and Clara Lucille (Maples) Oberlander, both of Bucyrus; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; a brother, Lorraine Bantzhaff; and three sisters, Lulu Leuthold, Ruth Lyons, and Phyllis Oberlander.

Abigail was a 1933 graduate of Eden School and furthered her education at Warner College of Beauty in Toledo, and graduated with a degree in cosmetology. She worked as a beautician for many years, along with being a homemaker and helping her husband, Lester, on the family farm.

She was a 30 year member of the former Loss Creek Lutheran Church, where she played the organ and piano. She later became a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, and was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.

Abigail enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, taking care of her yard, doing crossword puzzles, and going to the alumni banquets.

She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her love for family gatherings, and spending time with her sisters, whom she dearly loved, in conversation and laughter.

Funeral services for Abigail B. Johnson will be held at 11:00am Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada. Burial will follow after services at Nevada Cemetery. Visitations will be held 1 hour before the service on Saturday, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or a charity of the donors choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 401 S. Main St., Nevada, Ohio 44849.

Sharon Lyons I was sorry to hear about your aunt but glad to learn that she had reached 100. I remember her playing the church piano and organ for years. She was a very kind person.
