Charles McDonald Obituary

BUCYRUS: Charles David "Mac" McDonald, 76, passed away on Saturday at Bucyrus Community Hospital. Charles was born January 4, 1934 in Morrow Co. to the late Charles Wesley and Laura Dell (Clements) McDonald.

He was married December 22, 1956 to Judith Ann (Pensinger) McDonald who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Richard McDonald and sister, Joyce Boyle.

In addition to his wife, Charles is also survived by daughter, Julie Ann (Gordy) Dyer; sons, Charles Douglas and Carl Dereck McDonald all of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Collin (Rachel) Dyer, Lindsey (Jarvis) Bransetter, Clay McDonald; great grandchildren, Cole, Owen, Caleb, Carsten, and CalLee.

Former Bucyrus Police Chief McDonald served in the military for 2 years stationed at Fort Benning, GA; he spent a short time at GE and joined the Bucyrus Police Dept. in 1957. He served the Dept. from 1957 until 1986 and served as Chief of Police the last 13 years. Following retirement Mac worked at Baja Boats until 2001.

Charles moved to Bucyrus in 1956 and graduated from Whetstone High School in 1951. He was a lifetime member of the FOP, a member of Amvets Post 27, formerly coached Bucyrus Babe Ruth Baseball, enjoyed fishing, the Cleveland Browns and Indians as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

At Charles request there will be no formal calling hours or funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cr. Co Humane Society or the Salvation Army through the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com

I remember Chief McDonald being my dad's F.L.(Skip) Shearer"s boss on the police force for a very long time my dad loved Chief McDonald as did my mom also. He was very dedicated to his job and love this community and the ppl and did his very best to keep all of us safe.. He was a great man....So very sorry for ur loss..My prayers r with u...

Judy, Doug, Julie, Dereck and all,

I am very sorry that your husband/father/grandfather is gone. I loved his booming voice. How he commanded authority . :-) I too felt safer when Mac was Chief. The memories of growing up in "the hood" as your neighbor are some of my fondest. I have always felt close to all of you. Be comforted by so many people who care and all of your memories of him.
