Eddie Long Obituary
BUCYRUS: Edward M. Long, 86, of Bucyrus died peacefully Saturday night, June 10, 2017 at Carlisle Place where he had lived since 2013.
He was born in Shelby on November 22, 1930 to the late Calvin D. and Helen E. (Brown) Long. Eddie was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and the medical community thought he would be lucky to see his 20s. Little did they know that Eddie's orneriness, zest for life, and devoted mother and family would allow him to defy all odds and live to 86.
Eddie grew up on the family farm and attended school in Sulphur Springs and enjoyed being with friends. At home, he had a pony named Dan that pulled him in a cart that was made to accommodate him. When he got older, he fed livestock, drove tractor, and collected arrowheads. Eddie loved people and always had a candy bar or cold pop for family and friends who stopped by. The exceptional care of his dear mother was amazing and Eddie wintered with his folks in Florida. At home, he enjoyed good food and watching westerns. He'll be remembered best for his orneriness, smile, teasing, and especially his loving heart.
Eddie is survived by his loving family and caretakers, brother, Art (Kate) Long; nephews and nieces, Allan (Dixie) Long, Sharon (Dave) Shealy, Chuck (Jane) Long, Steve (Vicki) Long, and Lisa (Dan) Eichhorn; 16 grand nieces and nephews; and 26 great grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Irene Long and his infant twin brother and sister.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 14 at 1:00 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 12 Noon-1 and burial will follow in Sandusky Cemetery on Biddle Road.
